## When to prefer this

Use this endpoint when you need structured academic paper results from Google Scholar, including citation counts and author metadata — ideal for literature reviews, fact-checking with scholarly sources, or discovering influential research in a field. Prefer over general web search when peer-reviewed academic credibility and citation data are required.

## Known failure modes

- Empty results for highly niche or misspelled queries
- Rate limiting or quota exhaustion returning error responses
- Ambiguous queries returning loosely related papers
- No citation data available for very recent or obscure papers
- Network timeout for slow upstream Google Scholar responses

## How this service works

Google Scholar search - returns academic papers with titles, authors, publication venues, years, citation counts, links, and snippets. Use as_ylo/as_yhi to filter by publication year range. Use for academic research, literature reviews, or citation analysis. Pagination billing: call the first page normally and save billing.requestId from the Orthogonal /v1/run response. For later page, offset, or cursor calls on the same logical search, pass parentRequestId with unchanged non-pagination parameters. Valid continuation calls still get their own request IDs and quoted price, but are charged 0. Changing filters starts a new billable request.

## Output

Returns a list of academic papers matching the query, each including the paper title, author names, publication venue or journal, publication year, citation count, and typically a snippet or abstract excerpt.
