## How to call it through Zero

Zero handles the 402 payment challenge and records the run. With the Zero CLI installed (`npm i -g @zeroxyz/cli`):

```sh
zero fetch --capability sitecheck-web-archive-lookup-186fb743
```

Example prompt: Can you pull up the archive history for https://example.com and show me all snapshots captured between 2010-01-01 and 2015-12-31?

## When to prefer this

Use this endpoint when you need to retrieve historical web archive data from the Internet Archive Wayback Machine for a specific URL — including listing all captures over time, finding the closest snapshot to a given date, or filtering captures within a date range. Prefer this over general web scraping tools when the target page no longer exists or has changed, and you need verified historical versions. It is purpose-built for archival research, not live page retrieval.

## Known failure modes

- URL has never been archived — returns empty captures array or no closest snapshot
- Invalid or malformed URL input — request rejected
- URL is not publicly accessible or uses non-http(s) scheme — error returned
- Date parameters in wrong format (not YYYY-MM-DD) — parsing failure
- Internet Archive API unavailable or rate-limited — upstream timeout or error
- Very recent URLs may have no captures yet

## How this service works

Wayback Machine snapshots of a public URL: the capture closest to a date, the list of captures in a date range (one per day, max 500), first and last capture, and mode=diff, which compares the latest snapshot's text with the live page (added and removed lines, max 200 each). Diff is line-based and does not parse JavaScript-rendered pages.

## Output

Returns a JSON object containing the first and last capture dates, total capture count, the closest snapshot to a requested date (with its Wayback Machine URL, HTTP status, and timestamp), a list of individual capture entries (each with URL, date, status, and timestamp), the data source attribution, and a checkedAt timestamp.
