Choose this endpoint when you need a cheap, fast, multi-source search combining Wikipedia, Hacker News, DuckDuckGo, and Stack Overflow without paying for a premium index. Ideal for factual lookups, programming questions, and technology topics where slight staleness (up to 1 hour) is acceptable. Prefer it over premium search endpoints when cost is a priority at $0.002 per call. Avoid it when you need real-time news, non-English content, or deep web coverage beyond these four sources.
Side effects
- Missing or too-short query parameter (q < 2 chars) returns a validation error
- No results found if all upstream sources return empty for the query
- Cached results may be stale by up to one hour for very recent events
- limit value out of range (outside 1–30) returns a validation error
- Upstream source timeouts may reduce the number of sources that respond
