Use this endpoint when you need a fast, cheap structural gate on an LEI code before committing to an expensive live GLEIF registry lookup, or when you simply need to confirm a string conforms to ISO 17442 format with a valid mod-97 checksum. Ideal for high-volume onboarding pipelines, form validation, and data quality checks where live entity status is not required.
Side effects
- LEI string is not exactly 20 characters — validation will return false
- Non-alphanumeric characters cause format failure
- Checksum digits are incorrect — valid_checksum returns false even if format is otherwise correct
- Empty or missing 'lei' field returns an error
- Network timeout or payment failure (x402) prevents response
