Choose this endpoint when an agent needs to consume web page content efficiently within a token budget, especially for JavaScript-rendered SPAs that ordinary scrapers miss. It is preferable over generic scrapers when you need BM25-focused excerpts aligned to a specific query, or when you want to minimize LLM context costs by getting a compression-ratio proof alongside the distilled output. The built-in 'structured' and 'skeleton' modes make it ideal for extracting tables or outlines from documentation pages.
Side effects
- URL is unreachable or returns non-200 response — endpoint may return an error status
- Raw HTML is malformed or too large — distillation may fail or truncate
- max_tokens set below the minimum of 20 — validation error
- BM25 query not provided when mode=budget — may fall back to full distillation
- SPA JavaScript rendering timeout — dynamic content may not be captured
- Payment not authorized via x402 — 402 response blocking execution
