It is ideal when you already know the shape of the data you want (expressible as a JSON Schema) and the source is a logged-out public web page. Prefer it over general-purpose scraping tools when schema-conformant JSON output is required directly. Use the sibling Markdown-conversion endpoint instead if you want raw readable content rather than structured extraction.
Side effects
- URL is behind a login wall or paywalled — returns empty or partial data since only logged-out public pages are fetched
- robots.txt disallows crawling — request is refused to remain compliant
- Page content does not contain fields matching the supplied schema — output fields will be null or missing
- Invalid or malformed JSON Schema supplied — extraction cannot be performed
- Target URL is unreachable or returns a non-200 HTTP status — fetch fails
- Dynamic JavaScript-rendered content may not be fully captured if the page requires JS execution
