It is especially useful for DeFi workflows where ERC-20 or multi-chain token prices are needed by contract address, which many simpler price APIs do not support. Prefer this over exchange-specific price feeds when you need broad multi-chain coverage backed by DefiLlama aggregation.
Side effects
- Invalid or unrecognized coin identifier returns an error or empty result
- Network/upstream DefiLlama API unavailability causes timeout or 5xx error
- Malformed coin identifier format (missing chain prefix) may return no data
- Very new or illiquid tokens may not have price data available
