Use this endpoint when you need a fast, single-engine citation check for up to 10 target domains against one specific prompt. Prefer this over the multi-engine endpoint (citation_tracker_check) when you only need to query Perplexity, OpenAI, or Gemini (not Claude), want lower cost per call, and don't need simultaneous multi-engine comparison in a single request.
Side effects
- Invalid domain format in targets array — must be normalized lowercase domain without scheme or path
- More than one engine specified — this endpoint accepts exactly one engine per call
- Prompt exceeds 4000 characters — request rejected
- Unsupported engine name — only perplexity, openai, or gemini are accepted
- Network or upstream AI engine timeout — structured error returned
- Payment failure — x402 payment not processed, call not executed
