Prefer this over single-protocol fee lookups when comparing multiple protocols or identifying top earners. Use the chain filter when you only care about a specific blockchain ecosystem. For revenue (protocol-retained fees) rather than gross fees paid, use the companion revenue-ranking endpoint.
Side effects
- Invalid or unrecognized chain name returns empty or error response
- Limit out of range (below 1 or above 50) causes validation error
- DefiLlama data source temporarily unavailable causing upstream timeout
- Malformed request body returns 400-level error
