How this service works
Modified Denver BCVI (Cothren 2005). Positive if any sign (arterial hemorrhage; cervical bruit age <50; expanding cervical hematoma; focal deficit; neuro exam incongruous with head CT; stroke on secondary CT) or any risk factor (LeFort II/III; C-spine subluxation, transverse foramen, or C1-C3; basilar skull with carotid canal; DAI with GCS <6; near hanging with anoxia). Imaging indicated when positive. Not Biffl grade, expanded Denver, NEXUS, or Canadian C-spine. magent does not read CTA.
Output
Returns a positive or negative BCVI screen result based on the modified Denver criteria (Cothren 2005). A positive result indicates that vascular imaging (CTA of the neck vessels) is warranted. The response reflects which of the 11 boolean flags were true and whether any sign or risk factor was present. The endpoint does not perform imaging, interpret CT scans, or assign a Biffl grade.

Use this endpoint when you need to apply the published modified Denver BCVI screening criteria (Cothren 2005) to a set of caller-assigned clinical flags to determine whether vascular imaging is indicated. Prefer this over Biffl grading (which requires imaging results), expanded Denver, NEXUS, or Canadian C-spine rules — those are distinct protocols not implemented here. This endpoint is appropriate for automating trauma triage workflows where the clinical signs and risk factors have already been evaluated by a clinician and need to be mapped to a screening decision.
Side effects
- Missing required boolean parameters returns a validation error
- Passing non-boolean values for any flag causes schema rejection
- Ambiguous compound criteria (e.g. DAI with GCS) must be pre-resolved by the caller — the endpoint does not accept raw GCS integers
- Result is only as accurate as caller-assigned flags; the endpoint does not validate clinical findings
- No network connectivity or API unavailability returns an HTTP error
