How this service works
European Medicines Agency (EMA) centrally authorised human medicines (EMA bulk JSON, updated twice a day): name, EMA product number, status, active substance, ATC code, therapeutic indication, first authorisation date and holder. Searches name or active substance. Up to 20 per call.
Output
Returns a JSON object with the search query, total number of matching medicines, data source URL, data timestamp, and an array of medicine records. Each record includes the EMA medicine page URL, brand name, marketing authorisation holder, regulatory status (e.g. Authorised, Application withdrawn), ATC code, category, therapeutic indication, EMA product number, active substance, and authorisation date.

Side effects
- Query too short (under 2 characters) or too long (over 60 characters) returns a validation error
- No medicines found for obscure or misspelled drug names returns empty results array
- EMA source data temporarily unavailable may result in stale or failed fetch
- Invalid 'max' parameter (outside 1-20 range) may cause error or default behaviour
- Non-latin or special characters in query may yield no results
