Use this endpoint when you need to programmatically assess whether an RSS or Atom feed is still being actively maintained, or to detect new content since a prior check — especially useful for monitoring blogs, podcasts, and news sources. Prefer this over generic web scraping when the content source exposes a feed, as it provides structured freshness metrics (age in hours, posting cadence, staleness flag) that scrapers cannot easily compute. Particularly valuable when you need delta tracking (new items since last call) without maintaining your own state.
Side effects
- Feed URL is unreachable or returns a non-200 HTTP status
- URL is a webpage with no discoverable RSS/Atom feed
