Prefer this over reverse geocoding endpoints (which go from coordinates to name), and use it as a first step before calling coordinate-dependent endpoints like weather, timezone, or nearest airports.
Side effects
- Ambiguous place name returns coordinates for the most prominent match, which may not be the intended location
- Very obscure or misspelled place names may return no results or an error
- Non-existent or fictional place names will fail to resolve
- Rate limiting or payment failures may prevent the call from completing
