How this service works
Convert between 30+ currencies at the European Central Bank's daily reference rate, for today or any past date. Returns the converted amount, the per-unit rate and the date the rate is actually from — the ECB publishes on business days only, so a weekend date answers with the previous business day and says so instead of pretending. Reference rates for accounting and reporting, not tradable quotes.
Output
Returns the converted amount, the per-unit exchange rate, and the actual date the rate is from (which may differ from the requested date if it fell on a weekend or holiday, with the discrepancy clearly noted). Supports converting to multiple target currencies in a single call.

Side effects
- Invalid or unsupported currency code returns an error indicating the currency is not available
- Date before ECB data history returns an error for out-of-range date
- Malformed date format (not YYYY-MM-DD) causes a validation error
- ECB data unavailable for a very recent date may fall back to last available rate
- Network or upstream ECB data source timeout
