It is especially useful when the target page is long or noisy, and the agent only needs the relevant portion (use budget+query mode). Prefer this over raw HTTP fetching when structured extraction (tables, metadata) or outline-only views are needed. Also ideal when you have raw HTML already and want to avoid re-fetching.
Side effects
- Invalid or unreachable URL returns an error status
- Pages behind authentication or paywalls may return incomplete or empty content
- Very large HTML payloads may exceed processing limits
- max_tokens set too low may produce truncated or unusable output
- BM25 query with no matching content may return minimal or empty excerpt
