Output
Returns a list of up to 15 stories with rank, title, URL, domain, author, score, comment count, age in minutes, posted timestamp, and a text-post flag. Also includes aggregate stats: mean and median score, mean and median comment count, top domains by story count, the list type requested, total stories returned, and a timestamp for when the data was fetched.

Choose this endpoint when you need a real-time snapshot of the current Hacker News front page or one of its named feeds (top, new, best, ask, show) with rich per-story metadata including scores and comment counts. Prefer it over the search endpoint when you want a ranked feed rather than keyword-filtered results, and over the date-based endpoint when you need live current stories rather than historical archives.
Side effects
- Invalid list type value returns an error or defaults to top
- Limit outside 1-15 range may be clamped or rejected
- Hacker News API downtime causes degraded or empty response (degraded flag set to true)
- Network timeout returns no stories
- Requesting more than 15 stories is not supported
