Use this endpoint when you have an active KHOTEM cryptographic witness stream that is approaching its message limit and needs to be extended without creating a new stream. This is the correct endpoint when you already hold a valid stream_id and want to continue using the same sealed document thread or audit trail without interruption. Prefer this over opening a new stream when continuity of the attestation chain matters.
Side effects
- Invalid or unknown stream_id returns an error indicating the stream does not exist
- Expired or closed stream cannot be topped up
- Payment failure via x402 results in 402 response and no quota change
- Malformed request body returns a validation error
- Stream already at maximum capacity may reject topup
