It is more focused and vendor-aware than a raw DNS lookup, returning human-readable provider names rather than raw hostnames. Prefer this over a general DNS lookup when you specifically care about mail provider vendor identity and the sending services in SPF.
Side effects
- Domain does not exist or has no MX records — returns empty or null provider
- Domain has no SPF record — authorized senders list is empty
