How this service works
Search Germany's open data portal GovData by keyword, or fetch one dataset by id: title, publishing organization, last modified date, resource count and total match count.
Output
Returns a JSON object with ok status, cache indicator (search-hit or miss), the query string, total match count, fetch timestamp, data source (govdata-ckan), and an array of matched dataset items each containing id, name, title, last modified datetime, packageId, publishing organization name, and resource count.
Example use cases
Environmental dataset discovery
“Can you search GovData, Germany's open data portal, for datasets related to 'Luftqualität' (air quality) and tell me which organizations published them and how many total results there are?”
Fetch specific GovData dataset
“I have a GovData dataset ID — 'umwelt-daten' — can you pull up its full metadata including the publishing organization, last modified date, and how many resources it contains?”
Research German transport open data
“Look up datasets on Germany's GovData portal with the keyword 'Verkehr' (transport) and give me a summary of what's available, including the organizations behind them and when they were last updated.”
Technical details
Endpoint
GEThttps://api.maxwellinternational.ai/v1/gov/de/open-data?utm_source=zero.xyzWhen to prefer
Use this endpoint when you need to discover or retrieve metadata about publicly available German government datasets from GovData (govdata.de). It is specifically suited for searching Germany's national open data catalog as opposed to EU-wide, Austrian, UK, or Czech portals available on the same provider. Prefer this over direct CKAN API calls when you want a simple, paid-per-call interface without managing authentication or API keys.
Side effects
- No datasets found for keyword — returns empty items array with totalCount 0
- Invalid dataset ID — may return 404 or empty result
- GovData CKAN upstream unavailable — may return error or timeout
- Missing required query parameters — returns validation error
- Rate limiting or payment failure — HTTP 402 response requiring payment
