Prefer it over heavyweight FX APIs when you don't need live tradable or tick-level rates, and when free tier usage (10 calls/day) or sub-cent per-call pricing matters.
Side effects
- Invalid or unsupported ISO 4217 currency code returns an error response
- Free tier exhausted (10 calls/day) with no payment method returns HTTP 402 with PAYMENT-REQUIRED header
- Network/provider outage from ECB Frankfurter or ExchangeRate-API may cause unavailability
- Malformed query parameters (missing 'from' or 'to') trigger a validation error
