Choose this endpoint when you need to resolve a free-form, human-typed address or place name into machine-usable coordinates, especially when you want ranked results with structured address normalization. Prefer it over reverse geocoding endpoints when you have text input rather than coordinates. It supports country-biasing and language preferences, making it suitable for international use cases.
Side effects
- Empty or nonsensical query string returns no results or low-confidence matches
- Country code filter too restrictive — valid address excluded because it doesn't match specified country
- Invalid 2-letter country or language code returns a validation error
- Query exceeds 512 characters and is rejected
- Service returns ambiguous multiple results when the address is not specific enough
- Network or upstream geocoding provider timeout
