Generate a secure random password (characters) or a wordlist passphrase.
Output
Returns a generated password or passphrase string based on the specified mode and options. In chars mode, delivers a random string of the requested length using the selected character classes. In passphrase mode, delivers a hyphen- (or custom-separator-) joined sequence of random words, optionally capitalized.

Choose this endpoint when you need a server-side cryptographically random password or passphrase without storing any state — ideal for agent workflows that provision accounts, reset credentials, or onboard users. Prefer this over client-side generation when auditability of the generation call matters, or when you need passphrase mode with configurable word count and separator. Use the sibling strength-estimation endpoint if you need to evaluate an existing password instead.
Side effects
- Invalid mode value (not 'chars' or 'passphrase') returns a validation error
- Length out of range (below 4 or above 256 for chars mode) returns a schema validation error
- Words count out of range (below 2 or above 20 for passphrase mode) returns a schema validation error
- Separator string exceeds 8 characters returns a validation error
- All character class flags set to false in chars mode may return an error or empty result
- Payment not attached or insufficient USDC returns a 402 Payment Required error
