How this service works
News search. Send a query; returns up to 10 Google News articles with title, URL, publisher, date and snippet, optionally limited to the last hour, day, week, month or year and to a country and language. Use to find recent coverage of a topic, company or event. Not for full article text (use /v1/fetch-page). Typical response about 1 s. Failed calls are not charged.
Output
A JSON object containing the original query, source attribution ('Google News results via Serper'), a timestamp of when the search was performed, and an array of up to 10 article objects each with: position rank, title, URL, publisher/source name, relative date string, ISO 8601 publication datetime, a short snippet, and an optional image URL.

Choose this endpoint when you need recent news headlines, publisher metadata, and article URLs for a topic — especially when recency (last hour/day/week) matters. Prefer this over general web search when you specifically want news articles rather than generic web pages. Use this instead of /v1/batch-google-web-search when the news domain filter is important. Do not use this if you need the full text of an article — follow up with /v1/fetch-page for that.
Side effects
- Query too short (under 2 characters) or too long (over 400 characters) returns a validation error
- Invalid country code (not two lowercase letters) causes a 422 validation error
- Invalid time_window value (not one of hour/day/week/month/year) causes rejection
- No results found for an obscure or highly specific query — returns an empty results array
- Network or upstream Serper/Google News outage may return a 5xx error (not charged on failure)
- Page number out of range (above 5) returns a validation error
