Use this endpoint when you need to programmatically resolve a company name or partial ticker to its official SEC CIK and ticker symbol, especially as a prerequisite step before fetching SEC EDGAR filings, financial disclosures, or regulatory documents. Prefer this over general financial data APIs when the primary need is authoritative SEC identifier resolution rather than price or fundamentals data.

• No matches found for obscure or misspelled company names — returns empty result set
• Ambiguous query returning many matches when fragment is too short (e.g. ?q=a)
