How this service works
Evidence-backed autonomous AI jobs and paid data tools. Queue/D1/cron run outside the chat; free quotas and bounded execution apply.
Output
Returns a JSON object with the total number of matching organizations, source provenance metadata (provider, license, fetch timestamp, source URL), and an array of result objects each containing the ROR ID URI, organization name, types array (e.g. education, funder), country, and website URL.
Example use cases
Resolve institution name to ROR ID
“I have a grant application that lists 'MIT' as the affiliated institution — can you look it up in the Research Organization Registry and get me its official ROR ID and website?”
Discover research funders by keyword
“Search the ROR database for organizations matching 'Wellcome' and show me up to 10 results, especially any that are listed as funders.”
Verify university metadata for data pipeline
“I'm building a dataset of European universities — can you look up 'Sorbonne University' in the Research Organization Registry and give me its country, types, and official website?”

Endpoint
GEThttps://x402-agent.kariguetoazul.workers.dev/api/research/ror-search?utm_source=zero.xyzWhen to prefer
Use this endpoint when you need to resolve institution names to canonical ROR identifiers, retrieve structured metadata (types, country, website) for academic or research organizations, or enrich datasets with standardized organization records. Prefer this over generic web search when you need machine-readable, CC0-licensed registry data from the authoritative global research organization index.
Side effects
- Empty query string returns validation error (minLength:1 violation)
- Query longer than 200 characters returns validation error
- No matching organizations found returns total:0 with empty results array
- ROR upstream API unavailable causes proxy error
- limit parameter outside 1-20 range returns validation error
- Payment (x402) not provided or insufficient results in 402 response
