How this service works
Acker 2015 SIPA: heart rate in bpm divided by cuff systolic pressure in mm Hg, rounded to two decimals. Elevated if the ratio exceeds the age-band cutoff: 1.22 (ages 4-6), 1.0 (7-12), or 0.9 (13-16). Ages 4-16 only; not for infants or adults 17 and older. Not a diagnosis of shock and not the adult shock-index greater-than-0.9 rule. magent does not measure vitals.
Output
Returns the SIPA ratio (heart rate in bpm divided by systolic blood pressure in mm Hg, rounded to two decimal places) and an elevation flag indicating whether the ratio exceeds the Acker 2015 age-band cutoff: 1.22 for ages 4–6, 1.0 for ages 7–12, or 0.9 for ages 13–16.

Use this endpoint when you need the Acker 2015 pediatric age-adjusted SIPA score specifically — distinct from the adult shock index (HR/SBP > 0.9) — for patients aged 4 through 16. Prefer it over general shock-index calculators when age-band-specific cutoffs (1.22, 1.0, or 0.9) are required for pediatric clinical decision support or automated triage workflows.
Side effects
- Age outside the 4–16 range returns an error or rejection — not valid for infants or adults 17+
- Heart rate outside 30–220 bpm or systolic BP outside 50–250 mm Hg returns a validation error
- Missing any of age, heart_rate_bpm, or systolic_mm_hg causes a 400-level error
- Non-integer age or heart rate values are rejected by schema
