How this service works
Lists the CAA (Certification Authority Authorization) records published on a domain: which CAs may issue certificates (issue), wildcard certificates (issuewild) and the incident-report address (iodef). Shows the records on the exact name only; CAA is inherited from parent domains when a name has none, which this tool does not walk.
Output
Returns a JSON object with the queried domain, a boolean indicating whether CAA records exist, the list of CAA records (each with tag, flags, and value), arrays of authorized standard and wildcard certificate issuers, and a timestamp. Source resolver URL is also included.

Use this endpoint when you specifically need CAA record data for a domain to audit certificate authority authorization policy. Prefer this over a general DNS lookup endpoint when you want structured, pre-parsed CAA output with clearly separated authorized issuers and wildcard issuers. Note that it only checks records on the exact domain name provided, not inherited records from parent zones — factor this in for subdomains.
Side effects
- Domain has no CAA records — hasCaa returns false with empty records array
- Invalid or malformed domain name returns an error
- Domain does not exist in DNS — empty or error response
- CAA records exist only on parent domain — tool does not walk up the tree, so result may appear empty
- Network or resolver timeout from AdGuard DNS
