Screenshot of a public web page as a PNG, rendered by the thum.io screenshot service. Returns the image URL plus the PNG width and height measured from the image. Only http/https pages; the caller fetches screenshotUrl. Third-party renderer, rate limits apply.

It is ideal for visual previews, thumbnail generation, or dimension checks where full DOM interaction is not needed. Prefer it over heavier browser-automation APIs when cost, simplicity, and speed matter and the page does not require authentication or JavaScript interaction beyond initial render.
Side effects
- Non-http/https URLs (e.g. file://, ftp://) are rejected — only public http/https pages are supported
- Rate limits from thum.io may throttle or block requests under high usage
- Private or localhost URLs will fail to render since the renderer cannot reach non-public hosts
- Invalid or malformed URL input returns an error before the screenshot is attempted
- Very slow or unresponsive target pages may cause timeouts in the renderer
