It is purpose-built for redirect chain semantics rather than general page content extraction or full website crawling. Prefer this over a generic HTTP fetch when redirect security (e.g. SSL stripping risk) or redirect routing fidelity is the concern.
Side effects
- URL is not publicly reachable — returns an error or empty chain
- URL returns no redirect (200 directly) — chain length is zero
- Redirect chain exceeds three hops — only first three are captured
- Malformed or non-URI input — validation error on the url parameter
- Target server is slow or times out — request may fail or return partial data
- Private/internal URLs (e.g. localhost) — blocked or no meaningful result
