Choose this endpoint when you need authoritative, GLEIF-sourced legal entity data for a company identified by LEI code or name. It is the canonical source for LEI validation and entity identification in financial, regulatory, and KYC workflows. Prefer this over general company registries when the international LEI standard is required (e.g. MiFID II, EMIR, Basel III reporting). The cryptographic audit trail makes it suitable for compliance-sensitive agentic pipelines.
Side effects
- Invalid or malformed 20-character LEI code returns an error or empty result
- Company name search may return multiple or zero matches if name is ambiguous
- Lapsed or retired LEI codes may return records but with inactive status
- GLEIF data may be stale if the entity has not renewed its LEI registration
- Neither 'lei' nor 'company_name' provided returns a validation error
