Choose this endpoint when you need deterministic, structure-preserving field-level redaction of a JSON document using precise RFC 6901 pointer paths, and you want no model inference or network side-effects involved. Prefer it over regex or manual scrubbing when exact pointer-based targeting is needed, array index preservation matters, and you need an audit count of what was removed. Not appropriate for automatic PII detection (it only redacts explicitly specified paths).
Side effects
- Invalid JSON input returns an error — the json field must be parseable
- JSON Pointer paths must start with '/' or an error is returned
- Exceeding 50 pointers in a single call results in validation failure
- JSON string exceeding 48000 characters is rejected
- Pointer paths not present in the document are listed in missing_pointers rather than causing an error
