How this service works
Tiered payment receipt (tier 2): pay once with x402 and get back a short-lived receipt token that /pay/verify checks for you. The tier is fixed by the path - you do not send it. Optional ?ref= carries your own opaque reference, such as a query hash, straight through to the receipt. This mints a receipt rather than returning data, so there is no lookup that can come back empty. $0.03 per call.
Output
A short-lived JSON receipt token confirming that the $0.03 USDC x402 payment was processed for tier 2 access. The receipt optionally includes the caller-supplied opaque reference string (e.g. a query hash). This token can subsequently be passed to /pay/verify to confirm access authorization.

Use this endpoint when you need tier 2 access on api.truthbear.co and must pay via the x402 micropayment protocol at $0.03 USDC per call. Choose this over tier 1 when the downstream resource requires a tier 2 receipt specifically, and over tier 3 when the higher-cost tier is unnecessary. The optional ref parameter makes this ideal when you need to correlate the receipt to a specific query hash or job ID for auditing or verification downstream via /pay/verify.
Side effects
- Payment rejected — insufficient USDC balance or x402 handshake failure, returns 402 Payment Required
- Receipt token expires before it is verified — caller must use token promptly after minting
- Invalid or malformed ref parameter — may be silently ignored or cause a 400 Bad Request
