Returns whether the VAT number is valid according to the VIES registry, along with the officially registered business name and registered address associated with that VAT number. Invalid or unrecognized numbers will return a negative validity result.

Use this endpoint when you need to verify an EU VAT number against the authoritative VIES registry for B2B invoicing, reverse-charge compliance, supplier onboarding, or fraud prevention. Do not use for non-EU VAT schemes such as UK VAT, Australian GST, or US sales tax numbers.
Side effects
- Non-EU VAT numbers (e.g. UK, US, AU) will not be found and should not be submitted
- VIES system may be temporarily unavailable for specific member states, returning a service-unavailable error
- Malformed VAT number format (wrong length or prefix) will return invalid
- Recently registered VAT numbers may not yet be indexed in VIES
