Use this endpoint when you need a quick, cheap ($0.002 USDC) ETH/USD price or Base gas estimate and are comfortable with either cached or live data. Choose 'live' when freshness matters (e.g., transaction decisions); choose 'cached' for dashboards or informational use. Prefer over heavier oracle APIs when minimal latency and minimal cost matter and Base mainnet data is sufficient.
Side effects
- Live oracle fetch may return null for ethUsdPrice or gasPriceGwei if the upstream data source is temporarily unavailable
- Invalid freshness enum value returns a validation error
- Network timeout on live mode may result in partial nulls in response
- Stale cached data may not reflect very recent market movements
