Returns a JSON object indicating whether the target URL is alive, whether it serves a valid x402 handshake, the HTTP status code returned, the payment scheme (e.g. 'exact'), the blockchain network (e.g. 'base'), the asset type, the payTo wallet address, the price in atomic units and USD (if USDC), the x402 protocol version, and the probe latency in milliseconds.

Use this endpoint when you need to verify that a specific URL is a legitimate, live x402 service before committing a payment — especially useful for new or untrusted service listings. Prefer this over trusting marketplace metadata alone when the payment amount is non-trivial, the service is newly listed, or your agent needs to extract the exact payTo address, network, and price programmatically before constructing a payment.
Side effects
- Target URL is unreachable — alive=false, no payment details returned
- Target URL does not return HTTP 402 — x402=false, valid_handshake=false
- Malformed or non-conformant 402 response — valid_handshake=false with partial fields
- Network or asset fields missing from the handshake — incomplete result object
- Probe itself times out — latency_ms may be absent or very high
