13F Institutional Holdings – Manager CIK Search

Use this endpoint when you need to resolve a human-readable institutional fund or hedge fund manager name (e.g. 'Berkshire', 'Scion', 'Bridgewater') to a machine-readable SEC CIK before querying 13F holdings data. It is the necessary first step in any 13F holdings research pipeline where you only know the manager name, not the CIK.

• Manager name not found in the ~8,800 manager directory — returns empty results or 404
• Ambiguous manager name matching multiple filers — may return multiple candidates
• Misspelled or partial name fails to match — requires closer spelling to directory entry
• Payment failure (x402 protocol) — request rejected before processing
• Rate limiting or service unavailability — HTTP 429 or 5xx error
