It is ideal for invoicing, budgeting, and reporting use cases that accept once-daily official ECB rates rather than real-time mid-market or interbank rates. Prefer alternatives (e.g. commercial FX APIs) when you need live tick-by-tick rates or exotic/emerging market currency pairs not covered by ECB.
Side effects
- Unsupported currency code returns an error (ECB only covers ~33 major currencies)
- ECB rate may be up to 24 hours stale as rates are updated once daily
- Network or upstream Frankfurter API unavailability causes a 5xx error
- Malformed or missing amount/currency fields return a 4xx validation error
