It is preferable to scraping HTML manually because it handles all icon rel variants, resolves relative URLs to absolute ones, checks /favicon.ico automatically, and applies a best-pick algorithm (SVG > largest size, excluding mask icons) so you don't need custom selection logic.
Side effects
- Site is unreachable or times out — no icons returned
- Site blocks crawlers and returns 403/401 — empty or partial icon list
