Output
A list of public holidays for the specified country, state/canton, and year. Each entry typically includes the holiday date and name. Moveable feasts (such as Easter Monday, Whit Monday, Corpus Christi) are computed algorithmically from the Easter date rather than from a static table. Without a region code, only nationwide holidays are returned; with a region, state-level or cantonal holidays are added. Germany also supports a municipal-level code (e.g. BY-AU for Augsburg).

Prefer this over generic calendar APIs when you need German municipal exceptions (like Augsburg's Peace Festival) or Swiss cantonal granularity.
Side effects
- Invalid country code returns an error or empty result
- Invalid or unsupported region code for the given country may return only nationwide holidays or an error
- Year outside the supported range (1970–2200) is rejected
- Missing required fields may fall back to defaults (current year, DE)
- Network timeout or service unavailability returns no data
