How this service works
Returns the layer over a bounding box (upper left and lower right corners) at valid_time as a PNG of the given width and height with the color scale applied. Set apply_color=false for the raw values, as_netcdf=true for NetCDF, as_csv or as_json for tabular values, and as_gif=true with num_images and zoom for an animated GIF over a map background. epsg selects the projection, 3857 by default.
Output
Returns a binary PNG image (default), animated GIF, NetCDF file, CSV, or JSON depending on query flags. PNG/GIF include the layer's color scale unless apply_color=false. NetCDF contains raw gridded values. CSV and JSON contain tabular point values. Projection defaults to EPSG:3857 (Web Mercator).

Use this endpoint when you need a spatial raster rendering or data export of a radar or model layer over a custom bounding box at a specific time — for example, to embed a weather map image in a UI, produce an animated radar loop, or export gridded data for scientific analysis. Prefer this over the map tile endpoint when you need a non-tile arbitrary bounding box or a non-image format like NetCDF, CSV, or JSON. Use the point values endpoint instead if you only need values at discrete lat/lon points.
Side effects
- Invalid layer name returns an error — must use a name from the layer list endpoint
- Invalid valid_time format (not YYYYmmdd.HHMM) causes a parse error
- Bounding box coordinates out of valid lat/lon range returns an error
- Requesting a time with no data available returns an empty or error response
- Conflicting output flags (e.g., as_netcdf and as_json both true) may yield unexpected results
- Very large image dimensions or bounding boxes may time out or return oversized payloads
