Prefer over querying individual APIs (OpenAlex, Crossref, etc.) separately.
Side effects
- Paper not found in any upstream source — returns empty or error response
- Ambiguous title match — may resolve to wrong paper if title is not unique
- Rate limits or upstream API failures from OpenAlex, Crossref, Unpaywall, or Semantic Scholar
- Malformed identifier input (e.g. wrong DOI format) causes resolution failure
- No open-access PDF available — field returned null or absent
