Choose this endpoint when an agent needs to discover academic or scientific literature from multiple authoritative sources (OpenAlex, arXiv, PubMed) in a single call. Prefer it over general web search when the user explicitly wants peer-reviewed papers, preprints, or citation data. Ideal for literature reviews, research discovery, and finding open-access PDFs. Not suitable for fetching full paper text or for non-academic content.
Side effects
- Empty results if the query is too specific or niche for indexed databases
- Source-specific errors if one database (e.g. PubMed) is temporarily unavailable, reported in source_errors field
- Rate limiting or payment failure if USDC balance is insufficient on Base
- Partial results if one or more sources return errors while others succeed
- Abstract may be truncated for long papers
