Fetch a web page server-side and convert it to clean markdown — headings, links, lists, tables and text, with scripts, styles and boilerplate stripped. The 'reader' pattern agents use to actually understand web pages. SSRF-guarded with redirects re-validated, 10s timeout, 1MB cap. Use this when an agent needs to fetch any page and get clean markdown an LLM can read.
Output
Returns the page content as clean markdown text: headings, paragraphs, lists, links, and tables preserved; JavaScript, CSS, navigation boilerplate, and ads removed. Optionally truncated to a specified maxChars limit. Output is directly readable by an LLM for summarization, Q&A, or analysis.

Use this endpoint when an agent needs to read and understand the human-readable content of any public webpage — especially for research, summarization, or Q&A tasks. Prefer it over raw HTML fetching when the goal is LLM comprehension rather than DOM manipulation. Choose it over PDF extraction when the source is a standard HTML page. Its SSRF protection and redirect re-validation make it safer than a naive HTTP client for agent use.
Side effects
- Blocked by SSRF guard if URL resolves to internal/private IP ranges
- Timeout if page takes longer than 10 seconds to respond
- Truncated output if page content exceeds 1MB cap
- Empty or minimal markdown if page is entirely JavaScript-rendered (SPA with no server-side HTML)
- Error if URL is malformed or unreachable
- Redirect chains re-validated — fails if redirect leads to a blocked target
