Prefer this over alternatives when your agent infrastructure uses the AgMsg payment-gated protocol on Base and you need to decommission channels as part of automated lifecycle management. This is the right choice when you want a soft delete (data retained) rather than a hard purge.
Side effects
- Channel ID not found — returns an error if the provided channel_id does not exist
- Already deleted — attempting to delete an already soft-deleted channel may return an error or no-op
- Payment failure — the $0.002 USDC x402 micropayment fails, blocking the request
- Authorization error — caller does not own or have permission to delete the channel
- Malformed request — missing or empty channel_id field causes a validation error
