How this service works
Fuzzy-search airports by name, city or code, optionally filtered by ISO country code or airport type. Matches are ranked exact-code/name then prefix then substring, larger airports first. Empty result is a successful 200.
Output
A ranked list of airport objects matching the query, ordered by exact code/name match first, then prefix matches, then substring matches, with larger airports ranked above smaller ones. An empty result set is returned as a successful 200 response when no airports match.

Use this endpoint when you need to search for airports by partial name, city, or code fragment with fuzzy matching and ranking. Prefer this over the exact-code lookup endpoint when the user's input is incomplete or uncertain, and over the nearest-airport endpoint when the user has no coordinates but does have a name or code fragment.
Side effects
- Query too short or empty — minimum 1 character required
- Invalid ISO country code returns no results or validation error
- Invalid airport type enum value causes request rejection
- Limit out of range (must be 1–100) causes validation error
- No matching airports returns empty array with 200 status
