Choose this endpoint when you need cryptographically attested, verifiable evidence of historical rainfall — not just a data lookup — especially for parametric insurance triggers, smart contract auditing, or any context where the signed evidence bundle itself (not just the boolean) is required. It is not suitable for future forecasts, real-time monitoring, or locations outside NOAA/NWS grid coverage.
Side effects
- Future time windows are refused with an error — only past windows are resolvable
- Grid identifier not covered by NOAA/NWS returns a coverage gap refusal at no cost
- Malformed grid string or invalid datetime format triggers a validation error at no cost
- Ambiguous or missing required fields (grid, window_start, window_end) result in a free validation rejection
- Extremely recent past windows may not yet have finalized NOAA source data
