How this service works
Real effective exchange rate of a currency against 64 economies (inflation-adjusted): rises mean the currency gets dearer and the country loses competitiveness. Ranking with annual change, or one country's series. BIS data.
Output
Returns a JSON object with the BIS data source label, the number of economies covered (up to 64), and either a ranked array of all countries (each with ISO code, country name, index value relative to 2020=100, reference month, and annual percentage change) or a time-series for a single country — enabling both snapshot ranking and longitudinal trend analysis.
Example use cases
Global REER competitiveness ranking
“Give me the latest BIS real effective exchange rate ranking for all economies — I want to see which countries' currencies have gotten most expensive and which have lost the most competitiveness over the past year.”
Single country REER trend analysis
“What is the current real effective exchange rate index for Japan according to BIS data, and how has it changed over the last 24 months?”
Euro area competitiveness monitoring
“Pull the BIS inflation-adjusted exchange rate series for the euro area (XM) for the past 12 months so I can track how eurozone competitiveness has evolved.”

Endpoint
POSThttps://api.vextorium.com/tipo-cambio-efectivo-pago?utm_source=zero.xyzWhen to prefer
Choose this endpoint when you need inflation-adjusted (real) exchange rate data benchmarked against a broad 64-economy basket sourced directly from BIS — as opposed to nominal exchange rates from forex APIs. It is ideal for macroeconomic competitiveness analysis, trade policy research, or comparing how much a currency has strengthened or weakened in real purchasing-power terms over time.
Side effects
- Invalid or unrecognized country code returns an error or empty result
- Requesting a country not in the 64-economy BIS basket returns no data
- BIS data may have a publication lag of 1-2 months, so the most recent month may be unavailable
- Omitting the 'type', 'method', and 'bodyType' required fields causes a validation error
