Use this endpoint when you need historical TVL context for a specific blockchain — especially cycle position (distance from ATH), trend direction (30d/1y changes), and a time series for charting. Prefer this over a simple current-TVL lookup when the user wants to understand momentum, recovery, or where a chain stands relative to its peak. It is more focused than a full cross-chain rankings endpoint and more detailed than a snapshot metric.
Side effects
- Unknown or misspelled chain name returns null or error
- Look-back window outside 30–2000 day range returns validation error
- DefiLlama data temporarily unavailable causes empty or null series
- Chain with no DeFi activity returns zero or null TVL values
- Very new chains may have insufficient history for the full requested window
