How this service works
Find North Carolina (NC) court cases and hearing dates for a PERSON by name. Both first and last are required. For a company, LLC, insurer or landlord use search-cases-by-business instead — person search cannot match an organisation and returns nothing rather than a worse answer. SLOW: a live portal query, 15-50s; allow a generous timeout and do not retry. Read-only, NC only.
Output
Returns a list of matching court cases where the named individual is a party, including case numbers, case types (e.g. CR for criminal, CV for civil), file dates, current case status (Pending, Disposed, Closed, Reopened), and scheduled hearing dates. Results are sourced from a live NC court portal query and limited to North Carolina jurisdiction only.

Prefer this over the judgment index endpoint when you need full case listings and hearing dates rather than just money judgments or criminal sentences. Only applicable for North Carolina courts.
Side effects
- No results returned if the name does not match any NC court record (not an error — genuinely no cases found)
- Timeout or slow response (15–50 seconds expected; do not retry aggressively)
- Returns nothing if queried for a company or organization name — use the business search endpoint instead
- Invalid or missing first/last name parameters cause request rejection
- County name typos may return no results or an error
