How this service works
Search the current roster of agents actively registered under the Foreign Agents Registration Act by name or state, direct from the DOJ eFile API. Returns registration number, name, address, and registration date. FARA does not publish a machine-readable foreign-principal index, so this product does not claim to search by foreign principal.
Output
Returns a JSON array of registrant records matching the query, each including the registrant's name, the foreign principal they represent, their registration date, and a boolean indicating whether the registration is currently active. Up to 100 records can be returned per call.

Side effects
- Missing both name and state parameters returns an error since at least one is required
- No matching registrants returns an empty registrants array
- Invalid state code (e.g. non-two-letter code) may return empty results or a validation error
- limit values outside 1–100 may be rejected or clamped
- FARA database may lag real-time DOJ updates by days or weeks
